the latest trend for spring 2009? florals? asian babies? nope. it's absurdist playwrights apparently.
the love of my life, beckett, has been getting a lot of attention lately. the first in a series of books containing his letters was recently published and the reviews have been everywhere. i'm too lazy to put up links, but trust me. pretty much everyone in the entire literary world is peeing in their pants from all the excitement. i particularly like stoppard's take on it:
"The prospect of reading Beckett's letters quickens the blood like none other's, and one must hope to stay alive until the fourth volume is safely delivered."
but don't feel bad stoppard, i am sure someone will publish your letters one day as well. and it'll definitely quicken my blood.
also, opening this spring will be a revival of "waiting for godot." i am a little terrified that it's going to be butchered by all the famous actors. but, really, it can't be any worse than the production i saw in ft worth several years ago. the actors pronounced it GOD-o. oh god.
and just when you thought life couldn't get any better. there will also be a revival on broadway of ionesco's "exit the king." i think sometimes that ionesco doesn't get the attention he deserves. he's a little more kooky than beckett. but absolutely delightful.
i don't know if i can contain myself.
i may just have to fly up to NYC for a weekend to go see Waiting for Godot with you.
ReplyDeleteGOD-oh. oh God is right. I'm ashamed of Fort Worth.
