tinkler: 1, blockbuster: 0

i have successfully avoided having a blockbuster account for 25 years. i would like to say it's because i am somehow against big chains like blockbuster. or against tv (i hear that stuff rots your brain, but i wouldn't know. i'm too busy watching millionaire matchmaker.)

the truth? i just don't want the responsibility. i don't mind paying to rent the videos. i just want it to be on someone else's account. (thanks mandy!) actually, i don't like paying for them either. i'm cheap. (thanks again, mandy!)

yesterday, my internet and cable disappeared. disappeared. after several years on hold with time warner cable, i was told they'd have to send out a technician to fix the problem.

next available appointment? saturday afternoon.

yes, that's right. an entire week without cable or internet. i sent a txt to my roommate, lisa, letting her know she might want to hang out at her mom's house in upstate ny for a little while longer. her response, "thank god for netflix!"

yeah, only problem is. i had already suffered half a day without tv/internet and had been forced to watch all of my netflix movies. what was i going to do for the rest of the weekend? go outside? read? i don't think so.

i thought about hittin' up the library. i've been told they sometimes have dvd's available. for free! but i avoid public libraries like the plague, so i wouldn't really know. also, i think they're closed on sundays.

so i made up my mind. sunday morning. i was going to march down to blockbuster. and open up my first account. oh god, do you smell that? that's the stench of failure.

but this morning i woke up and my cable and internet were working! omg, it's a christmas miracle!!

i almost cried from happiness. so guess what blockbuster? you lose again. sucka!!

  1. Whew! No internet for a week would suck. Not only for you, but for me. What would I do when I get bored during class or when I'm annoyed at everyone and need a dose of hilarious distraction from medical school? I would have a stroke.

  2. well, i guess if you're gonna have a stroke, med school is the best place to do it? think of the favor you'll be doing all your classmates. they'll get hands on experience!
