last night one of the vendors came up to me and gave me a hug. there were several things wrong with this situation.
1. he's a middle aged man. who may or may not have been slightly drunk.
2. i had only met him for the first time a few hours earlier.
3. he snuck up on me from behind. i didn't realize i was being hugged until it was too late to stop it.
i'm not going to lie. i was a little freaked out. if i had had my anti-rape whistle and pepper spray, i would have used them.
maybe it's just me. but i do not appreciate close physical contact with someone i barely know. who is significantly older than i am. and a man. so gross.
also, another man gave me a kiss on the cheek when greeting me. this isn't europe. i don't kiss people on the cheek. not appropriate either!
ugh, next time instead of trying to go for a cute but professional outfit, i'm just gonna dress frumpy like all the other librarians. i didn't see anyone else being attacked!
we had a reception at the library last night and when I went over to shake hands with one of the writers I knew of by name but hadn't ever formally met, he leaned in and gave me a kiss on the cheek. cheeky, i thought. and slightly gross.
