laying it all out on the table

one of my favorite secret guilty pleasures is the BBC show "you are what you eat." the show takes some poor british fatty who loves to eat chips and crisps and take-aways (oh those delightful british) and then makes them exercise and eat crazy healthnut food for 8 weeks.

my favorite part of the show is when they try to shock the person by laying out on a table everything they've eaten in a week. i can't really describe the disgusted but delighted little thrill my heart gets when i see that. it really is amazing.

recently, msn showed a series of photos from Hungry Planet: What the World Eats by peter menzel and faith d’alusio. the pics show families from around the world and the food that they consume in a typical week. (from becoming minimalist, via what's hot in google reader.)

(too lazy to put the pics up here, but definitely worth clicking through).

instead of feeling delighted, these pictures just make me feel a little sad about how wasteful/unhealthy i am.

i should probably try to eat a vegetable sometime today.
