i <3 the oed.

once again, the oed has come to my rescue*.

i love the oed. like, i would marry it if i could. i am starting to think i should buy a print copy and wallpaper my apartment with the pages. how awesome would that be? so. awesome.

so when jillian complained that an etiquette "expert" at martha stewart was being sloppy and using bff in blog posts, i consulted the oed. bff is not in the oed (yet.) which means it is technically not a real word, imho. (imho is in the oed, in case you were wondering. still probably not okay to use if you are claiming to be an etiquette expert. but a little less offensive.)

this kind of crap is okay for gawker. but not for martha. particularly after jillian and i have both left comments notifying the writer that we don't think it's acceptable. and she continues to be a sloppy writer. wtf.

*the oed also came to my rescue in college when ryan and i had the month long debate about the validity of the word "mopiness" which appears in the oed but in no other dictionaries. i still claim that i am the winner of this argument, as did my linguistics professor, and will continue to trust the oed in all matters until i die.
