i grabbed a spoon.

a while back, i lamented my lost opportunity with the cute subway boy who looked like he might want to talk to me. i'm still kicking myself about that one. he's probably my one true love. my platonic other half (not platonic in the sense that you're just friends with someone. but platonic in the sense that long ago my soul was attached to another's and i'm still running around looking for my other half.)

last week, i sat across from another cute boy on the subway. we kept looking over at each other. but nothing happened. again, i was probably meant to spend the rest of my life with him. he had cute hair.

yesterday on my way home from work, i stood next to a cute guy reading cormac mcarthy's blood meridian. i pretty much peed in my pants. i've read blood meridian! i liked blood meridian! it was the perfect opening. so i spent about ten minutes giving myself a peptalk. and finally. i decided to grab a spoon.

right as my train got into queens, i cleared my throat. and managed to somehow force out of my mouth a very squeaky (but respectable), "so how are you liking the book?"

it worked. we chatted a bit about mccarthy. i claimed that blood meridian was his best work so far (i felt pretty confident about this, given that my adorable professor at baylor once said the very same thing.) we didn't have much time, but he did ask for my number when he saw me getting ready for my stop.

so while we're all waiting for him to call, i'll go ahead and start planning our destination wedding in napa valley.

  2. If you give a guy an opening then they will find a way to talk to you. Good for you!
