for the past year or so, i haven't really been listening to music. partly because i'm bored with my current playlists, but too lazy to find new bands. partly because everything on my old playlists reminded me of a certain someone who broke my heart and shall remain nameless. and partly because indie musicians are always so freakin heartbroken.
(sidenote: this is why i like hiphop. i love me some swagger. please, nothing about love. i just want to sing about boats and booty.)
a couple weeks ago, i was in an urban outfitters (what? don't ask.) and they were playing postal service. not just one song. but like the entire album. i texted ana immediately to see if we had somehow time traveled to 2003.
this weekend, i listened to ryan adams on the bus. i closed my eyes and imagined i was in the backseat of ana's car. amanda in the front. on our way to austin for a concert with jillian.
last night, i danced to spoon while making dinner (oh britt daniel, how i have missed thee.) i felt like i was back in college. slusher bringing over springrolls after work. dance parties with the girls. giant sonic styrofoam cups filled with rum.
sigh. i love how songs can do that to you. i had forgotten that they can bring back the good memories too. not just the bad.
