why is everyone having so much trouble following inception? why are people confused? every time i read a review and someone says you gotta see it more than once to really get it, i want to punch them in the face.
i'm not dumb. i totally got it the first time. i won't be needing to see it again, thankyouverymuch.
seriously people. it was just like a bad philosophy 101 project.
now time travel. that's a metaphysical issue i can get behind.
What I think people mean by "getting it" is that there really is no one way to "get." The movie is open to many interpretations (I've personally read at least 7-10) and none of them are necessarily correct.
ReplyDeleteIt may not take intelligence to understand it, but it does take a certain level of connection with the film. This is one of the first films in a while that demands the audience embrace what is happening on the screen and participate with their brain. That's commendable, and we, as a collective movie audience, should only be so lucky to have more films like it.
(And in the interest of full disclosure, if you couldn't tell, I adored Inception and believe it to be one of the best films I've seen in a long time.)
ha, oh no. we'll have to agree to disagree. i like the concept of the movie. and i like reading everyone's interpretations of the film as well.
ReplyDeletebut the film itself, imho, fell flat. it just felt too empty (maybe on purpose? i hope not). i just couldnt feel connected to it. couldnt connect to the characters. couldnt connect to the plot. couldnt connect to anything.
it just felt like the movie was trying too hard. and i got bored.
(and keep in mind my favorite author is beckett. so i have a high tolerance for plotless and absurd crap.)
but totally glad you liked it. and dear god i am thankful someone decided to make a summer movie that wasn't another stupid transformers.
The lack of connection to the plot and characters is actually part of one of the interpretations, so perhaps you liked it more than you thought! ;)
